B. Iden Payne Award for "A Little Night Music".

B. Iden Payne Award Nomination for role of Charity in "Sweet Charity".

Thoroughly Modern Millie with The Palace

And as Millie, Sara Burke is sensationally adorkable. She's quirky, energetic, and beautiful. With a wink, a smile, and a crinkle of the nose, she gives a plucky charm to the role. I've seen many Millie's in the last ten years, and none have been as fun to watch as Sara Burke. You can't help but love her, and that sentiment can be said of both the character and the actress responsible for her.

Edges with Austin Theatre Project

Sara Burke, though, is the true scene stealer. You can't take your eyes off her, especially in her comedic numbers. There's something almost Kristin-Chenoweth- like about her brand of cutesy comedy, and it's absolutely infectious.

Wendla in Spring Awakening at Zach Scott Theatre

Also making a fine turn is up-and-comer Sara Burke as the shy and vulberable Wendla. Burke plays bright-eyed innocence better than anyone in town, as anyone could see in her award-nominated turn in Sweet Charity, and here she tempers that sweetness with real pathos and doubt, our hearts breaking with every sad expressions that crosses her face. She seems more timid, more reserved, than her Broadway counterpart (Glee's Lea Michelle), which creates a very different dynamic between herself and Newcomb as Melchior, making the first act's graphic culminating scene carry that much more

weight.

Zach Theatre has chosen a phenomenal way to start their season, creating a play that is at once thrilling and exciting to watch, while also full of painful and heartbreaking moments that are sure to leave you in tears. Director Michael Barron and his cast and crew have created a completely different animal than its Broadway counterpart, while still being able to bring out the things that fans of the original loved so much. Its a fresh take on a Broadway favorite that's

a great choice for any lover of musicals.

The acting of Sara Burke, Johnny Newcomb and Jordan Barron was captivating. One could feel that with their singing and dancing alone the feeling of what it is like to be a teenager. Their acting hopefully reached even the hardest of hearts as you were just awestruck by emotion.

Charity in Sweet Charity with Summer Stock Austin

Ms. Burke brings firecracker energy, great comic timing, and a lot of heart to the lead, such that her exclamations of "SOMEONE LOVES ME!" leading into I'M A BRASS BAND sent real chills up this audience member's spine.

I have given very few standing ovations in eight years of Austin theatregoing, but after pitch-perfect Sara Burke turned to face the audience with one last infectious smile as the horn section offered one final blast, I couldn't help but leap to my feet. The cast seemed to devour the material, executing with ease each delightful and difficult sequence.
